Hypnosis for Fear of Driving Over Bridges

A bridge can turn an otherwise ordinary journey into something you think about for days. You may be comfortable on the roads leading to it, then feel your confidence change as the crossing comes into view. Perhaps you plan long detours, ask someone else to drive, or feel anxious even as a passenger.
I’m Tamara Shadday, also known as Tammy. My personalized Zoom hypnosis sessions can focus on your particular bridge fears, whether your goal is to feel more comfortable driving across or riding with someone else. You can begin from home, wherever you live in the US, subject to service suitability and any referral requirements.

What is it about the bridge that worries you?
Two people can avoid the same bridge for very different reasons. You do not have to describe your experience perfectly; we can talk through the parts that feel difficult.
Height, water or an exposed view
The concern may involve a high overpass, a long span over water, or seeing the landscape fall away beside the road. Some crossings feel manageable while one particular bridge seems to dominate your plans. We can focus on the features and imagined possibilities that make that crossing different for you.
The approach and the point of commitment
You may worry about getting onto the bridge because turning around or stopping will no longer be an ordinary option. For others, the anticipation is more difficult than the crossing itself. A useful consultation question is: does the fear build while planning the trip, approaching the bridge, or once you are on it?
Being a passenger and having less control
Riding across a bridge is a different goal from driving across it. You may trust the driver but still feel uneasy because you are not making the decisions. Tell me whether the fear occurs as a driver, passenger, or both, so we work with the right situation.
A session built around your crossing
I work with driving concerns that involve bridges, highways and riding with another driver. In my client work, comfort can differ from one journey to another, and being a passenger brings its own concerns. I ask about those differences rather than assuming that every bridge fear is about heights.
We may discuss the images that come to mind before a crossing, the comments you make to yourself, and what you would like to be able to do. Your goal could be visiting someone without a major detour or feeling more comfortable on a regular family journey.
During hypnosis, I can use guided imagery and suggestions connected to that goal. We may work on setting aside an anticipated worst-case scene and rehearsing a more composed response in your imagination. This practice happens in your session, away from the road. It is not a promise that every bridge or driving situation is safe.
Confidence that still respects real road conditions
Our aim is to work on unnecessary fear while preserving sensible caution. Hypnosis does not change weather, visibility, bridge restrictions, traffic or your driving skills.
You will not be asked to cross a bridge during a Zoom appointment. Any real-world driving must remain within your abilities and current conditions. If practical driving skills need attention, a qualified driving instructor may be appropriate. Medical symptoms or a diagnosed condition may call for licensed healthcare support as well.
Work with Tammy from home by Zoom
I am a Certified Professional Hypnotist and Certified Holistic Life Coach, and I have owned St. Petersburg Hypnosis Center LLC since 2009. Learn more about my background.
You do not have to travel to Florida or cross a bridge to attend. We begin with a free phone consultation about your concerns, location, goals and the suitability of hypnosis. If we decide to work together, your paid sessions take place individually by Zoom from a private, comfortable setting.
You can tell me what has changed and what remains difficult before the next session. If a smaller bridge feels different but a larger crossing still worries you, that distinction helps us decide what to address next. Progress and the number of sessions vary; there is no required success timeline.

Bridge fear no more
“I went to Tammy to get relief from a life-long terror of bridges. After just two sessions, I was less anxious when crossing bridges. After the third session, I was able to ride across the Skyway bridge (which previously had put me in a huddle on the floor of the car) and even look out at the water without being afraid. Thank you, Tammy!”
Questions about fear of bridges
Is fear of bridges always a fear of heights?
Not everyone describes it that way. You may be concerned about water, the length of the crossing, traffic, or being unable to leave when you want to. We discuss your experience rather than assume the cause.
What is gephyrophobia?
Gephyrophobia is a term used for fear of bridges. You do not need a diagnostic label to inquire about your concern. I do not diagnose phobias; if symptoms are severe or you need an assessment, a licensed mental health professional is the appropriate person to consult.
Can we focus on high overpasses as well as bridges over water?
Yes. Tell me which structures trouble you and what feels difficult about them. We can tailor our discussion and session imagery to an elevated roadway or overpass as well as a bridge over water.
Can I inquire if I only feel anxious as a passenger?
Yes. Passenger comfort is a legitimate goal of its own. We would focus on your experience of riding with someone else. If you later want to work on driving across, we can discuss that as a separate goal.
What if the bridge is part of a highway journey?
How much does it cost, and how soon should I start before a trip?
The phone consultation is free, and hypnosis sessions are paid. We discuss fees, availability and what is included before you book. If you have a trip planned, tell me the date, but do not rely on a particular number of sessions to make you ready. Keep travel arrangements that allow you to make safe choices.
Let’s talk about the crossing that is limiting your plans
You can tell me which part you dread and whether you want help with driving, riding as a passenger, or the anticipation beforehand. That gives us a practical place to begin.
