You may be comfortable driving around town, yet feel an urgent need to get off as soon as you enter the highway. Or you may spend so much time thinking about the interstate that you choose the longer route before you even leave home.

I’m Tamara Shadday, also known as Tammy. I offer personalized hypnosis sessions by Zoom for people who want to work on highway driving fears and feel more confident about the journeys that matter to them. We can begin from your home, without a drive to an office.

Booking is handled through my St. Petersburg Hypnosis Center website. Your hypnosis sessions take place by Zoom.

Which part of highway driving feels difficult?

Highway anxiety is not the same experience for everyone. Understanding your particular difficulty gives us a more useful starting point than simply telling you to relax.

Merging, speed and other drivers

You may feel tense when entering fast traffic, passing a tractor-trailer, or noticing someone following too closely. In our work, we discuss the situations you anticipate and the thoughts that come with them. The aim is to support composure while keeping your attention on real driving conditions and normal safety decisions.

Feeling committed until the next exit

For some drivers, the hardest part is knowing they cannot immediately leave the road. Even a familiar stretch can feel overwhelming when they begin calculating how far it is to the next exit. We can focus on that feeling of being trapped and the worry that builds around it.

Returning after a long break

I work with driving concerns that include losing confidence after time away from a regular commute. You may remember using the highway every day and feel frustrated that a short trip now takes so much mental preparation. We start with where you are today and what you want to feel able to do next.

We work with your actual driving pattern

In my client work, a person may drive regularly on local roads and still avoid the interstate. Someone may feel more at ease on the way home than on the outward trip. Another may spend the evening before a journey debating which route to take.

These details matter. I ask what happens before you leave, which part of the drive feels hardest, and what is different on a more comfortable day. We also discuss what you have tried and whether it has helped. Your sessions can then focus on your experience, rather than a standard description of highway fear.

Your goal may be a manageable commute, visiting family, or having more choice about your route. It does not have to begin with a long-distance trip.

What we can focus on during hypnosis

Hypnosis uses guided attention, imagery and suggestions tailored to your goals. In a session, we may work on the worried predictions you make before a drive, rehearse responding with greater steadiness, and reconnect with experiences in which you have felt capable.

My approach can include imagery for setting aside unhelpful fear and worry, a brief reminder of calm confidence, and a personal cue practiced away from the road. We discuss which approach is useful for you. The purpose is to support a different response to the situations you describe; no particular result or number of sessions is guaranteed.

Feeling relaxed in a session is one part of the experience. I also want to hear what happens between sessions: whether preparing for a trip feels different, what remains difficult, and what you would like us to address next.

“I found Tammy by searching online for help with my driving anxiety. Boy, do I wish I would have found her years ago. She is the first step you should take to help yourself instead of using her as a last resort. She helped me with tools on how to decrease not only my driving anxiety, but my anxiety in general. I can’t recommend her enough. Thank you Tammy for changing my life for the better!”

Questions about highway driving anxiety

Yes, you can contact me even if you are currently avoiding highways. You do not need to prove that you can use the interstate before we talk. We discuss your situation and what support is appropriate. Hypnosis does not assess your driving skills or determine whether you are medically fit to drive.

Yes. People use different words for these roads. What matters in our conversation is whether the difficulty involves speed, merging, nearby vehicles, feeling unable to leave, or another part of the experience.

No. You attend from a safe, stationary setting away from driving. Never participate in hypnosis or listen to hypnosis recordings while operating a vehicle. Only return to driving when fully alert and able to do so safely.

If the crossing itself is the main difficulty, read about hypnosis for fear of driving over bridges. We can discuss both concerns if they overlap.

Our page about panic while driving explains the fear of another episode and when medical or mental health support is important. New or unexplained symptoms should be assessed by a healthcare professional rather than assumed to be anxiety.

There is no fixed number that guarantees comfortable highway driving. We discuss your goals and session options during the consultation, then use your updates to guide the work. You can ask about fees and what is included before booking paid sessions.

Tell me about the drive you want to feel more comfortable making

Is it the entrance ramp, the space between exits, or the thought of a longer journey? Start by telling me what happens for you and what you would like to change.
